As an important and traditional information carrier, the production of paper has always been prosperous and is increasingly closely related to printing technology. The development of the economy and the advancement of technology constantly put forward new requirements for the varieties, quality and performance of paper. In the 1980s, China's printing industry and papermaking industry jointly completed the process of transforming from letterpress printing to offset printing and from letterpress printing paper production to offset printing paper production. Nowadays, in China, the use of letterpress printing for printed materials is extremely rare. Letterpress printing has almost been completely replaced by offset printing. In China's paper industry, although letterpress printing paper is still regarded as a key product for industry statistics, the actual production is no longer the letterpress printing paper of the past; most of it is offset book and periodical paper. There is no stop on the road of development. Modern offset printing demands that the printing paper have a smoother surface, better printing performance, and be able to withstand significant changes in temperature and moisture without curling. Internationally, the varieties of printing paper have been extended upwards, and a series of new varieties of mechanical wood pulp printing paper have been developed. In recent years, the development of digital printing technology, office automation and personal computers has put forward newer and higher requirements for paper.
