Properties of Offset Paper

Offset paper is typically manufactured using bleached softwood chemical pulp blended with an appropriate proportion of bamboo pulp. During processing, heavy filling and sizing are applied; some premium grades undergo additional surface sizing and calendering. Since offset printing relies on the principle of water-ink balance, the paper must exhibit excellent water resistance, dimensional stability, and strength. Offset paper is predominantly used for color printing. To accurately reproduce the color tones of the original artwork, it must possess a certain level of whiteness and smoothness. It is commonly employed for printing catalogs, color illustrations, trademarks, covers, endpapers, high-end books, and notebooks. In recent years, with the improvement of cultural and living standards, book materials have also moved toward higher quality, leading to increased use of offset paper for printing books, periodicals, and notebooks. Owing to its advantages—bright whiteness, crispness, flatness, and smoothness—books and notebooks made from offset paper feature clear text and maintain a flat, distortion-resistant form. Compared to letterpress or newsprint publications, they offer a distinctly higher grade, earning strong popularity among readers and users. The volume of books and notebooks bound using offset paper is expected to increase substantially in the future to meet market demand.
