Crepe paper raw materials fall into two categories, each requiring distinct processing techniques:
- Qingtan Bark Material (Ribbed Xuan Paper Type)
Material Selection: Select the bast fibers from the Chinese sumac tree. These fibers are long and highly resilient, serving as the core material for high-quality textured paper.
Steaming: Place the Chinese sumac bark into a steaming vat, add alkaline additives such as wood ash, and steam at high temperatures for several hours. This process removes impurities like gum and lignin, loosening the fibers.
Rinsing and Beating: The cooked material is repeatedly rinsed with clean water to remove ash residues. It is then beaten in stone mortars or crushed in milling troughs to pulverize the fibers into a slurry, ensuring a fine and uniform texture.
2. Bamboo Pulp Material (Standard Ribbed Paper)
Material Selection: Primarily uses young bamboo, cut into sections and split into strips.
Fermentation: Bamboo strips are immersed in ponds or lime water for several months to undergo natural fermentation and delignification.
Pulping: Delignified bamboo strips are washed, beaten into pulp, and then filtered through fine screens to remove coarse fibers and impurities.
