Introduction to Lightweight Paper

Created on 2025.12.24
In Munkedal, Sweden, a local paper-making enterprise named the type of light paper "Munkedal" on the spot. When this paper was first introduced to China, it was given the name "Mengken". As it was the earliest light-duty offset paper introduced to our country, this type of paper is habitually called Mengken paper (light-duty paper) in China. People engaged in the paper industry usually directly call it "Mengken". In economically developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan, many pocket books in bookstores are printed on this kind of paper. Such paper is rarely used in the printing of high-end hardcover books.
It is an uncoated environmentally friendly paper with high mechanical pulp content and high bulk thickness. It has the physical property that its thickness is greater than that of ordinary paper when the basis weight is the same, and it presents advantages such as lightweight, strong ink absorption and no reflection. Its main raw materials are fibers and calcium carbonate, without fluorescent brighteners. However, the lignin residue is prone to oxidation, causing it to turn yellow and become brittle during long-term storage, and its service life is relatively short.
