Lightweight paper is generally expressed by coefficients for its bulk density index, such as 1.5, 1.7, 1.8, etc. (Referring to the thickness of the paper divided by the basis weight)
Compared with offset paper, the bulk thickness of "lightweight paper" can reach 1.90cm ³ /g, while that of offset paper is 1.14cm ³ /g. Therefore, in printing, low-grammage "lightweight paper" can be used to replace high-grammage offset paper. Take 80g/m2 offset paper as an example:
The thickness of offset paper is 80g/m ² ×1.14cm ³ /g=91.2μm. Under the same thickness, the weight of "lightweight paper" is 91.21μm÷1.9cm ³ /g=48g/m ², which is equivalent to 50g/m ² of "lightweight paper". That is, the "lightweight paper" with a basis weight of 50g/m2 and a bulk thickness of 1.9cm ³ /g has the same thickness as the offset paper with a basis weight of 80g/m2 and a bulk thickness of 1.14cm ³ /g.
