Introduction to Lightweight Paper

Created on 03.18
Let's first clarify what this lightweight paper actually is. This paper originates from Sweden, a country with abundant forest resources and a developed paper industry. It was developed and produced by the century-old Munkedals paper mill in the 1970s. Its original name was "Munken Offset Paper", which literally means "Munken Offset Paper". In 1997, it was introduced to China and was distributed by the China Printing Materials Corporation. At that time, Chinese paper factories did not have the capability to produce this type of paper, and people were relatively unfamiliar with it. They merely regarded it as a "new type" of offset printing paper. This paper is very thick and dense. Compared to ordinary offset printing paper, the same thickness is much lighter. Therefore, when it was first introduced to China, it was called "Munken Lightweight Offset Paper". Later, for a period of time, its name was not standardized. Some called it Munken Paper, some called it Lightweight Paper, and some called it Lightweight Paper. It also gave rise to names such as Swedish Lightweight, Nordic Munken, etc. Around 2003-2004, large paper factories like Chenming and Yueyang in China also developed their own lightweight paper. By 2008, the National Standardization Technical Committee for Paper Industry in China issued a national standard, naming it "Lightweight Printing Paper (Low Density Printing Paper)", or simply "Lightweight Paper". Compared to domestic products, the development of lightweight paper abroad has been very smooth. Once it was introduced, it quickly became popular. In developed countries such as Europe, Japan, and the United States, 95% of books at this time chose lightweight paper.
